Ridgeland, SC Weather |
The Jasper County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with all county law enforcement agencies, reported a successful "warrant round-up" last weekend.
Sheriff Gregory Jenkins said eight warrants, ranging from armed robbery to family court offenses, were successfully served, with eight arrests made. One of the warrants was issued in Georgia and the offender was arrested.
"The round-ups are ongoing," Jenkins said.
Jenkins said the roundup was part of the regular department and inter-departmental services, which also include roadside check points.
"Planning is always happening for this," Jenkins said, "and for the traffic safety check points, where warrants are also checked for and served in conjunction with normal traffic enforcement."
Warrants are received on a weekly basis by the department and enforcement is ongoing, with outstanding warrants being served with periodic "batch" enforcement efforts through inter-agency efforts.
Jenkins is pleased with the number of officers involved, more than a dozen, and with the warrants successfully served. Those who were served are awaiting court action in the Jasper County Detention Center.
"The safety of the community is paramount," Jenkins said. "We're happy that we've been able to enforce that safety with these arrests, and we'll continue to do what we're doing to make our communities safer."

warrants
Yes its wonderful that the Sheriff did a warrants round up and arrested several people. But why now, could it be he's up for re-election? Yes, it should have been an on going process for the last 3 plus years but it wasn't til now. He also started road checks guess what that should have been happening also. We need a Sheriff that will do his job 365 days a year, not just in a election year. We need Sam Woodward 28 years experience in the field and as a supervisor, he will work with his men not just behind a desk. He will also work for the citizens of Jasper County to clean up the drugs and crime not just in an election year but everyday!
Good Job Sheriff!
Good job sheriff. Many of us appreciate your progressive and aggressive, yet affable approach to law enforcement. More than that, we appreciate your visibility in the community and your willingness to lead your staff by example. You are the best choice BY FAR for Jasper County's future law enforcement needs. A solid majority of the citizens have said this. Being a "supervisor" who led by fear and played favorites is certainly not what the county needs in a sheriff. But of course, as in the past, anyone can run for the office; and there will be some. But getting elected is another thing. Keep up the good work Sheriff Jenkins.
Warrants
Levyreader, how offen do you see the Sheriff himself out in the field doing anything? Progressive, aggressive who are you kidding yourself? He's anything but that, he did a warrant search once in how long? He should having been doing it all along! He is not the best choice by far, unless you like the way he does nothing for this county! Wake up people.
IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE
DON WOODS
The greatest failure of the people in Jasper County is that they simply do not understand. Sheriff Jenkins will be re-elected. If Jesus came back and ran for Sheriff,he would lose. The reverendsssss run the churches. The churches elect who they want. Qualifications does not matter. Records over the past years don't matter. Results don't matter. Jasper County has one of the worst Sheriff departments in South Carolina but that does not matter. Crime increases but fewer are solved. The reverendsssss tell their flock who to vote for-and like blind sheep-they do as they are told. Sheriff Jenkins will be the sheriff as long as he wants to be sheriff and nobody will or can beat him. Jasper County has changed-it has gotten worse. Oh footnote, now that gas prices are going up,the county will need to start buying more gas because they don't know what happens to the gas they have in the ground. I did a study a few years back and it showed that some sheriff cars were getting 3 miles to the gallon. What the sheriff or county council cannot run from are the facts and those are in the official records-you just don't have anybody in the county looking or looking in the right place.
Citizens...
I agree Don, if some of the citzens keep listening to their reveredsss and don't have a mind of their own, Greg Jenkins will be back in again. I am hoping and praying we can change that, we need people that are qualified for the position they hold not just someone who sits there and does nothing. I guess some people don't care that our county has one of the worst sheriff offices in the state. So sheep are you going to do what someone tells you to do, or are you going to use your own free will and do the right thing, vote for someone who is quailfied?
Safe
Before I respond, I want my motives to be clear. As a citizen of Jasper County I want to see a law enforcement agency that is seeking to make our home a safer place to live. I am not publicly supporting any candidate, but I want a Sheriff who will lead the Jasper County Sheriff's Office to support and defend its citizens against the criminals who have taken control of the streets, making good, honest citizens afraid to go out in their neighborhoods. Greg Jenkins is not that man. Maybe Sam Woodward or Charles Mitchell is, but my purpose is not to garner support for those candidates.
I am glad to see a "successful" warrant round-up, but exactly how successful was it? How many people went to jail out of all of the hundreds of people who are presently wanted by the Sheriff's Office? A more important question is, how does this warrant round-up fit in the Sheriff's plan to make Jasper safer? The fact is that he does not have a plan. A road check here, a warrant round-up there. These can be part of a successful comprehensive law enforcement strategy, but there must be a strategy. The Sheriff is playing checkers while the policing of our community is chess. A couple of arrests does not equal successful law enforcement.
We need a leader who will develop a compressive plan to make our community safer, not a leader who is more interested in media stunts to gain popularity. I am safe; because I carry a gun everywhere I go. Are you safe? Is your wife or husband safe? How about your sons and daughters? When will the Sheriff's Office stop playing games and start policing our community.
