STAND UP AND BE SHOT

    My name is Don Woods. There have been a lot of blogs and comments lately about Joel O'Quinn and the Sheriff's Department. First,Joel,I don't know what happened and it is none of my business. The comments suggest an affair. I offer this to all the perfect people in Jasper County. If this is true and an affair was at the heart of the incident-stand up Joel and be shot. But let us always be fair. Everybody living in Jasper County-men and women-who have had an affair-stand up and be shot. Let us do more. Everybody living in Jasper County that has committed a sin in their life-stand up and be shot. That would probably leave a population that could fit into a minivan. One comment was that Joel would not be fit to be Sheriff. Please answer this question. Are you saying that any real or potential sheriff that has an affair-is not fit for that office? Say yes and there will probably be a lot of comments posted. Personally,I don't believe the Sheriff's Department could find an elephant in a thimble. Don't believe me? Just read the SLED statistics on line. The Jasper County Sheriff's department is one of the worst in the State of South Carolina. When the day comes when a qualifed person who knows how to win a campaign comes along-NOTHING WILL CHANGE.

    Hate the sin-love the sinner. This applies in most of the Christian civilized world but obviously not in Jasper County. Joel,if the case is not pled and you have to go to court-ask for a change or venue. You cannot and willnot get a fair trial in Jasper County. The gossip mongers and rumor mill is in full swing. These are the same people that vote and you can see what we have elected.

    When I was a teenager growing up in Hardeeville I often said that if somebody pooted on one end of Hardeeville and somebody heard it,when it got to the other end of Hardeeville,it would have turned into that Woods boy starting a hurricane. It never changes. If I stood up and was shot for every sin I have committed,I would look like swiss cheese. You see,I am not perfect-and nobody else in Jasper County is either. They just want to run their mouth so that people will not look into their lifes. When I voice my opinion,I don't hide behind a false name. My name is Don Woods and may God Bless All.

Rumors

Jasper county has always been a rumor mill, probably always will be. People talk,it's not always nice, that's nothing new. I do however have some doubt that Sled made charges based on rumors. For all the trashing of the Sheriff's Department done here, they did not investigate this one.

I agree with you. SLED gathered information and based charges based on their investigation. SLED does not try and convict. That is why we have courts of law. Many people go to trial. Some are convicted and some are found not guilty based on the presented facts and rebuttal of the defense. The jury makes the final determination but when a trial is held in the court of public opinion and the trial is tainted-how can be call that fair. I have no side here. I simply would like the law take its course. We don't need Salem witch hunts any longer. In those days,an accusation was enough to have somebody put to death. Hopefully,even Jasper County has moved past that. Without a word being spoken,enough people will have been hurt in this incident. I just hate to see all the stones throwned. I don't trash the Sheriff's Department. I read facts about the Sheriff's Department. Most crimes of any county in SC and least amount of crimes solved in SC. Those are not opinions-those are facts. statistiics again

Thank you for your help.  the 2007 charts that I read Jasper was not first in anything.  I didn't see a chart about crimes solved at all.  Can't imagine them out doing Charleston, Columbia or Greenville.  That is where the most inmates are from in the prison system.  maybe you have more updated info than what I read.  Let me know I like doing research.

I love research. You have to look at the index crimes committed and crimes solved. The index refers to crime to population. For its population,Jasper County is at the top/or worst of all counties in SC. There are only 2 or 3 counties that have more crime/per population than Jasper and when it comes to solving crimes,Jasper is one of the top four worst. Now,if we had our crime and were the size of Beaufort, Charleston,Columbia,we would be worst than them. Other interesting statistics is on highway fatalies. Jasper County per population is one and in some cases,the worst county in the State. This is due to the fact that we have no law enforcement in the county. Drive drunk,speed at excessive rates-whatever you want to do.. There is nobody there to stop you unless you have a highway patrolman lost and he stops you. As one sheriff in Jasper told me one time-We don't write no tickets. It is so great that you like to research. It is out there but remember,facts don't mean much in Jasper. Have a great day.   Thank you, I am going to need to print it out it is so small.  .I was looking at numbers but not thinking about per population.   It will be easier when I print it out so I can read it better.  Get back at you later.

STATISTICS

  I have heard people say that about Jasper County law enforcement.  I went online to look up these statistics at SLED.  I could not find them anywhere on their site.  I read a 64 page report there was no break down by counties at all.  Please tell me where to find these statistics so that I and others can read them ourselves and be informed.  Thank you.

When you get on the SLED page click on CRIME REPORTING AND STATISTICS and then CRIME IN SOUTH CAROLINA BOOK and from there you can check either or ARREST BY COUNTY and INDEX CRIMES BY COUNTY.
