Sprouting Grass Moon
Sprouting Grass Moon
Submitted by Kevin Bozard on Tue, 04/27/2010 - 1:23pm.
According to folklore, this week's full moon has a special name, the Sprouting Grass Moon, because it shines down on the new grasses of northern spring. Go outside after dark and look at the ground. Does the grass look green or blue? The answer may surprise you.
The moon doesn’t physically change color itself, but it appears to take on different colors depending on what is in the atmosphere of Earth. Lunar eclipses can cause the moon to look red, orange, or even black,
and smoke and dust in the atmosphere from wildfires and volcanic eruptions can also change the color of the Moon’s appearance, including making it look bluer on occasion.
