In response to the recent post about the sheriff, here is more from me:

I can tell you why the sheriff let two deputies go, probably without due process and beyond much doubt, without any empathy or compassion; because it is what he was told to do by his chief deputy. You see, Greg was not elected; his ascension was more of a coronation. The people of Jasper County decided about 15 years ago that Greg Jenkins was going to be their next sheriff – regardless of whether he could do the job or not. And over the past 15 years or so, many very good law enforcement officers were forced to leave employment in Jasper County to make sure Greg would be the heir apparent to the office. The chief deputy, shrewd, but even more spiteful and arrogant, actually calls the shots there; and he has been doing so, long before Gregory Jenkins. Folks, the more appropriate questions are why do residents of Jasper County keep electing and appointing grossly incompetent people into the most crucial positions in the county? Why has this sheriff, and with all due respect, the sheriff before, allowed Roy Hughes to systematically run off employees who were threats to be a competent professional law enforcement officer for this county? Maybe because these highly paid incompetent bosses never really had to work for anything. They have depended on politics and bullying; and, an ignorant, gullible electorate. Folks, this sheriff’s office is ripe with malfeasance and a lack of real leadership. And deep down in your own hearts you all know this! That is what is really disturbing.
