Mr. JazzyBro's Weekly HS Picks: Week 3

Before I can begin my blog, I must let something out of my system. So please, bare with me for a minute.........6 FREAKIN TURNOVERS????? 16 PENALTIES??? REALLY???

That was probably the feeling of most Jaguar fans last week, as Ridgeland handed Hardeeville its second win of the season on a silver platter. But all is not lost, as it's better to get this kind of bad game out of the way early. Last week, Ridgeland played, hopefully, its worst game of the season, and yet had multiple chances to tie the game. Offsides, offsides, and fumbles, contained the offense all last week, and as one of the players was quoted as saying in the paper a few weeks ago, the only team that could beat the Jags last week was themselves. Mission accomplished. Now, it's time to focus on tonight's game, as the Jaguars will face a known foe in Estill. Estill is coming off a last minute loss against intra-county rival Wade Hampton 8-6, and plus Coach Stokes hates losing to his former program, especially after last year's "upset".  Well, enough of that, let's go to the preview:

Previous Meeting: Ridgeland won at Estill 7-0

Defense: Defensively, Ridgeland has been solid in their two games this season. The Jags have only allowed 23 points in the two games, and have been able to contain the opposing offense and keep the Jags in every game. With a smashmouth defense that is thirsty for blood, expect the Jags to turn it up a notch and stop Estill's wing-t offense. Like last week, Ridgeland will need to control the battle in the trenches to keep Estill's offense honest and to also, if necessary, hold the Gators to limited amount of points, as the Jaguars' offense has yet to show that it can consistently score.

Offense: Offensively, Ridgeland still suffers from the same problems it's been suffering since last season. Against Bluffton, Ridgeland was able to effectively run the ball and commit limited amounts of penalties. Against Hardeeville, Ridgeland looked like a group that was playing its first game as a team, sa they continuously kept getting called for a false start, and when they progressed, the turned the ball over. The one positive taken out of last week's horrendous offensive showing was the passing game. The Jags were able to rack up 104 yards in the air, with maybe 2-3 passes that could have been caught for TDs, had they actually been caught. Estill's defense is stout, and if the Jags can open up the field, and score, then the home opener should be a happy one.
