Mr. JazzyBro's Weekly HS Football Preview: Week 11

Here's something we haven't done in 6 years......and something we haven't hosted in 12. Playoffs. Once again, the football Jaguars have found their way back to playoff territory, adn what way to come back than by hosting a playoff game for the first time since the 1990's. In what has already been a season that many will not forget, Ridgeland will look to continue its Cinderella ride as they host 2nd year program Cane Bay, who is also making history and is also looking to continue its surprising run. So far this season, Ridgeland has done everything many didn't expect it to do. Coach Kirkland has turned this program around in only his second year, but I'm sure neither he or his players are ready to end it tonight.......

Kudos to Coach Kirkland for calling a "blackout" tonight, something that I haven't seen in Jasper County since I can remember. Although I'm sure it won't be a complete blackout, one has to start somewhere and what better time than when one hosts a playoff game. If there's one thing Jasper County has not built in its sports, it's things like these. Hopefully the city will come out and support the team tonight in full force.

Cane Bay Cobras (4-6; 3-2 Region 6-AA) vs. Ridgeland Jaguars (6-4; 3-2 Region 5-AA)

Previous Meeting: Teams have never faced each other

Strong running game. Physical Defense. Limited passing game. No, I'm not talking about Ridgeland. This is what Cane Bay's profile looks like. Both of these teams are mirror images of each other, as both depend heavily on the run, and both have very physical defenses. Cane Bay is coming off two blowout losses, while the Jags seem to be peaking at the right time, coming back on the road from 11-down. This season Ridgeland's offense has found life and has been the major player in the Jags' newfound success. BUt something that they will need to cut off is turnovers. Last week against Edisto, Ridgeland committed 5 turnovers. In playoff football, that won't get you a win. Tonight will be a very tough matchup, and Ridgeland's defense will have to step up and stop the running game of the Cobras. Offensively, Ridgeland will need to stick to what it does best, run. My gut feeling is that a play on special teams will mark the difference, and Jerry Scott as well as Malik Mitchell have shown that they can be very dangerous in returns. Either way, this game will come down to the wire. But please, no field goal attempts.......
