Mr. JazzyBro's Weekly HS Football Picks: Week 9
The playoffs are right around the corner. Recently, this would mean that the end of the season is approaching on yet another disappointing Jaguar football season, but this year things are much different. In only his second year at the helm. Coach Kirkland has broken the losing trend, and has the Jaguars not only fighting for a playoff spot, but for a home playoff game at that. Last week.......
The Jaguars showed what they can be, albeit against Hampton, if they dominate all three aspects of the game and limit the turnovers and penalties. The offense was able to run at will, and the defense was able to completely dominate Hampton's offense. The special teams gave excellent field position, and also blocked a punt for a touchdown. What was the best stat of the night.....the limited amount of flags against the Jags. They played with a chip on their shoulders and dominated in a way we haven't seen since last years' Ben Riley Beatdown.......
Barnwell Warhorses (1-7; 1-2 Region 5-AA) vs. Ridgeland Jaguars (5-3; 2-1 Region 5-AA)
Previous Meeting: Barnwell won 34-7 (2008)
So far this season, the road for both these squads have taken a road neither fanbase imagined. The Warhorses were undefeated in region, until the discovery of an ineligible player cost the Horses two region games and put them in the 5th spot in the region. The Jaguars have continued to surprise not only Jasper County, but the region as well. With a secured non-losing season in lock, Ridgeland looks to keep progressing as a team and not only clinch a playoff spot, but to also have the chance to host a home playoff game. But don't let the Warhorses' record fool you. They have something to prove and also are alive for a playoff spot. They have a very strong running game witha monstrous o-line, and have a potent defense. For the Jags to clinch a playoff spot tonight, they will have to dominate on all three aspects of the game. They need to limit the penalties and also build the run game and dominate the time of possession. Either way, tonight will be a big game and Ridgeland should come out with yet more to prove.
