Mr. JazzyBro's Weekly HS Football Picks: Week 8
Who would have thought that at this point of the season we would find ourselves in this position? Ridgeland has the opportunity tonight to put one foot into the playoffs, and laso do something that hasn't been experienced since 2004, and that's having a winning season. So far this season, the offense has found life, while the defense has lsot some lust. But overall, Ridgeland has impressed many this season, and let's remember they have yet to play up to the potential that they could be playing with. Which brings me to this.......
After last Friday's 30-23 win against region foe Pelion, you couldn't tell the team had won by looking at the player's expressions. They seemed upset, for whatever reasons that may be. That can be a good thing for a team that is trying to change the face of a once proud program. Those who saw last week's game, know that Ridgeland should have won by a much bigger margin. Maybe the players felt that way too. As Coach Kirkland has been saying for the last few weeks, discipline has not been there as it needs to be. No, not the discipline where players are looking for fights and have an overall bad attitude. The discipline on the field. But that will progress as this program keeps winning.......
Ridgeland Jaguars (4-3, 1-1 Region 5-AA) vs. Wade-Hampton Red Devils (1-6, 0-2 Region 5-AA
Previous Meeting: Hampton won 51-26
Preview:
Last year, Hmapton surprised the region and earned a playoff spot. This year, Hampton continues to surprise the region, but this time they are doing it in another fashion. To date, Hampton is the worst team in the region, averaging only 11.5ppg and allowing 39.8ppg, by far the worst in region. Opponents have scored 40+ points against Hampton 5 times this season. What does this mean?
Trap game for Ridgeland.
Everything points at Ridgeland running away with this game, but for that same reason, Ridgeland should be even more prepared than any other game this season. So far this year, Ridgeland has been able to run the ball. Except when they committ penalties, and that has been their biggest obstacle this season. Defensively, against both Pelion and Silver Bluff, the defense has allowed big plays to happen too many times. While Ridgeland has done its fair share of big plays, and it has shown that it can score, the defense will need to shut down Hampton's running game, which is the Red Devils' biggest threat. If they stay disciplined on their defensive task, and if the offense can attack early and often, then by halftime Ridgeland should be well ahead. Should be. But again I must re-iterate......
This is a trap game.
If the Jags want to taste the playoffs, tonight will be the game to prove that.Oh, and what better way to win tahn byspoiling someone's homecoming?
