Mr. JazzyBro's Weekly HS Football Picks: Week 7
Welcome back to yet another installment of my weekly blog, as this week it's homecoming and Ridgeland will look to get back to its winning ways against Pelion. Although much has changed this season for the Jags, much has yet to change as well. Last week in a 42-12 blowout at the hands of Silver Bluff, Ridgeland committed 15 penalties total. If they want to get to the playoffs, they will have to severely drop those flags during games, as not only does it put them deeper in yards to convert for a first, but it also brings out the "ugly" side fo players as they begin to get agitated. with that being said.......
Last Friday, Ridgeland picked a bad time to play its worst game of the season to date. The Jaguars that playe last week were not the Jaguars who defeated 2 of 3 3-A squads, and it was certainly not the same squad that pushed Hilton Head to the brink a week before. In fact, this was the same Ridgeland sqaud that gave a game away at Hardeeville. Granted, some of those second half flags were unwarranted, but that comes with the territory of trying to completely change the face of a program that has had nothing but negative light the last few years. That won't happen overnight unfortunately, so the little steps the team has been taking might not reap its fruit intil another season. As for the fans, one blowout loss does not finish the season. It's a rather shame when a visiting team can bring more fans to our stadium, especially when that team is 2 1/2 hours away. And of course it won't help telling the players to give up and that the season's over just because of a loss. Again, this is part of the old that has to change, as Ridgeland needs to really brace its team through it all and fully support the Jags. Ok, lol back to the topic at hand.......
Pelion Panthers (3-3, 0-1 Region 5-AA) vs. Ridgeland Jaguars (3-3, 0-1 Region 5-AA)
Previous Meeting: Ridgeland beat Pelion 26-22
Preview:
Last week, Ridgeland was brought back down to earth by a tough Silver Bluff squad. As I said earlier, the Jags didn't help their cause with countless penalties. Tonight, the Jags will look to rebound and contend for a playoff spot as the Panthers of Pelion will come to town. They, too, are coming off a bad loss, as Edisto stunned Pelion at their place 34-14. Pelion's main threat is their runningback. Ridgeland's D has been on a slump lately, but according to Coach Kirkland, they are coming in with a new attitude. What we do know about the D is that they can hit, so look for a lot of hard hits as Ridgeland's D is looking to re-establish its traditional smash-mouth game. Offensively, Ridgeland has progressed immensely this season, but were stopped last week by a very fast D. WIth the status of Brent Walker unknown, Ridgeland will need someone to tep up and dominate the ground. With a well-established running game this season, if Ridgeland can limit those flags, then it should be able to get back on track this week.
