Mr. JazzyBro's Weekly HS Football Picks: Week 6
Well, it's time for some Jaguar football once again, as Season II gets under way tonight with the region games, and what better way to start then against the defending region champs Silver Bluff. So far, it has been an exciting season for the Jags and its followers, as every game has been close, and Ridgeland has emerged from pre-season cellar dwellers in region 5, to possibly vying for a region championship in tonight's match. But before I get started.......
Dear fan,
If you are weak in the heart, or cannot take too much excitement, then please, stop following the Jaguars. Every game this season has been decided by 8 points or less, and just when you thought Ridgeland was out of a game, or didn't have enough offense to mount a comeback, here they come scoring 36 points in one half. At halftime of last Friday's Hilton Head game, mostly everyone had the Jags out for the count, and were just hoping that the score wouldn't get out of hand. Boy, have the times changed. Kudos to these "New Jags" for not giving up to the very end, giving us ESPN-worthy highlights with running kids over and breaking tackles left and right. But, enough about that, let's get to the breakdown.......
Silver Bluff Bulldogs (3-2) vs. Ridgeland Jaguars (3-2)
Previous Meeting: Silver Bluff 37-0 Ridgeland
So far this year, Ridgeland has shown that it has an offensive spark with a strong running game and a much-improved passing game. Another thing that the Jags have shown that hasn't been seen since the Bill Buldini era is heart and the will to fight until the end. This season's team was supposed to be no better than last year's squad, and much worse offensively. The points put up by Ridgeland in its last three meetings, two of those against 3-A squads:42,26,26. But tonight they will face off against the strongest opponent on their schedule in Silver Bluff. "The Bluff" has been dominant in Region 5 for years, and has been one of the power teams in the state. But while Ridgeland has far exceeded expectations so far, Bluff has not reached theirs. They're coming in losing their last two meetings, and their offense has been missing in the last few games. Either way, they have a very dangerous runningback who can break off the big play at any time. Offensively, the Bluff has talent in all their positions, and will look to get ahead early. Defensively, Bluff is very good, and Ridgeland will ahve to pound the ball and control the TOP to keep the Bluff's offense out of the game for as long as possible. The game will be very hard-fought, and if Ridgeland can contain the Bluff, it might be yet another nail-biter.
