Mr. JazzyBro's Weekly HS Football Picks: Week 10

Well, tonight will culminate the end of the regular season, but for the first time in 5 years, the Jaguars will not be playing their last game tonight. Having already clinched at least the 4th spot in region, Ridgeland is looking to finish the regular season on a high note, and bring a playoff game to Ridgeland, something that hasn't been experienced in a long time. But before we break down.......

If, and that's a very possble if, Ridgeland hosts a playoff game, I'm afraid there might be more visiting fans than home fans for that game. Last week's crowd attendance was shameful, and a few times this season the visiting crowd has been able to bring about the same amount of fans as the Jaguars. Whether it's the economy, or the town not yet fully grasping the program and its unexpected turnaround, if Ridgeland hosts a playoff game, something needs to be done to make sure the stand are full of red and black. Whether it's creating a more friendly environment, giving away shirts or whatever, the Athletic department should make sure it does everything it can to get the people in the seats. But itdoesn't just fall on them, the people have to come out and support these student-athletes. The article was on point, and if we really want the athletic program to go to the next level, a lot will have to be done from the Department as well as the town to support the growth of our student-athletes.......

Ridgeland Jaguars (5-4, 2-2 Region 5-AA) vs. Edisto Cougars (4-5, 3-1 Region 5-AA)

Previous Meeting: Edisto won 7-6 at Ridgeland (2008)

The memory from last year is still vivid. Ridgeland lined up to attempt a field goal attempt to win, and Edisto blocked the kick and ended the Jaguars' season. This year, things have turned up much different. Both squads have clinched a playoff spot, but now a first round home game is up for grabs. Ridgeland is coming off a close 2-0 loss to Barnwell, again lost on a field goal block. BUt the bright spot of that game, Ridgeland's defense kept the horse out of the endzone and redzone, and the offense was able to move the ball more productively than the Horses, just couldn't capitalize. In the last two games, Ridgeland seems to have turned the corner, especially on the defensive side. And what better time to peak than now.

Offensively, Edisto has one player that can kill you. Ridgeland will look to focus on him and try and limit his effectiveness. For the Jags, the running game has been able to rack up the yards almost at will. The key factor: Brent Walker. In the last two games, Walker has only played in the second half of games(disciplinary reasons), and still has been able to rack up over 100 yards. If he can unleash tonight, and if the Jags can capitalize in the redzone, then Ridgeland should be ready to host a playoff game. But Edisto will look to capitalize on turnovers, something that has hurt the Jags all season. It will be a close game and it might come down to another field goal. Edisto has a good kicker, so Ridgeland will have to capitalize in getting as many points as possible.
