Mr. JazzyBro's Football Fix- Week 9

It's Friday once again, and that means the Jags are in action. Tonight they will travel to face long-time rival Estill in a game that could be pivotal for both squads come playoff time. But before that.......

Two things: Great game by Ridgeland last week as they completely dominated a lesser squad in Bethune-Bowman. Second thing, I will take credit for Anthony's line on his article about so much for playing down to the competition. That was a below the radar, maybe-maybe not form of advertising and acknowledgement by him. Lol. But back to the game.......

Ridgeland Jaguars (5-3; 4-1 Region 5A) vs. Estill Gators (4-4; 3-2 Region 5A)

Previous Meeting: Ridgeland won 26-22 in 2009

Tonight will be a pitoval game for both squads for numerous reasons. Ridgeland will look to continue its winning streak, but most importantly keep battling for the #2 spot, which will be key come playoff time based on the points system in 1a. Estill is looking to solidify its playoff hopes, as right now they are on the outside looking in. A win against Ridgeland will put them in at lesst 3rd place in region, and also solidfy their strength of schedule. Estill is a power run oriented team, and its two reagion losses have been cloes ones against both Bamberg and Hardeeville. Its weakness? Run defense. In both losses, the Gators gave up a ton of running yards to both squads.

Last week, the Jags played a very good game agaisnt a very bad opponent. The Jags were able to work somewhat on the passing game, with the one big pass to Tyrone Mikell in the third for an almost TD. AS I've said before, Ridgeland will have to develop some kind of passing game if they want to go eep into the playoffs. The defense once again impressed, thanks in part to the new defensive scheme. Whatwas Ridgeland's achilles heel all season, the Jags were able to contain Bowman's passing game, and only allowed the Mohawks to see the other side of the 50 once all night,

Tonight will be a very tough defensive battle, something Ridgeland has excelled in for the latter part of the season. Scott will surpass 1,000 yards rushing tonight, and expect the Jags to once again wear out its opponent tonight. IT will be close early on, but the Jags should pull it out in the ned.

My pick: Jags by 7
