Mr JazzyBro's Football Fix-Week 10

Today marks the last day of the season for many teams around the state. Forutnately for all of Jasper, that won't be the case. Both Hardeeville and Ridgeland have secured a playoff spot, and tonight both teams wil be fighting for bragging rights and a possible 1st round playoff game. But before that.......

Last week the Jaguars defeated old nemesis Estill 33-16. THroughout the first half, the Jags and Gators were in a defensive battle, as Ridgeland was able tos core late in the 2nd quarter. By the fourth quarter, the Jags Express had worn out the Estill defense, and a good Passing D solidified the win for Ridgeland, it's 5th straight.

Hardeeville Hurricanes (5-4; 5-1 Region 5-A) vs. Ridgeland Jaguars (6-3; 5-1 Region 5-A)

Previous Meeting: Hardeeville won at home 14-6

Both these squads come into the 3rd edition of the Ben Riley Classic (if it's still called that) having very sucessful seasons so far. Hardeeville started its season very poorly, but a switch to the I-formation has since then propelled them to finish the season in 2nd place in arguably the toughest region in 1-A. Looking to get consecutive wins against its arch rival, the Canes will try and pounce the ball through the ground, as well as mix it up with their spread offense against a Jaguars defense that has allowed 11.4 ppg in its last 5 region matches. Defensively, Hardeeville will have its hands full as they have the task of containing 3 potent runnig threats in Amlett, Scott, and Capers.

As for the Jags, they will be looking to avenge last year's loss to the Canes,a s well as solidify their stance as one of the top teams in 1-a football. Defensively, the Jags have continued to impress, woth the passing D improving more every week, and a smashmouthdefense that has limited its opponents from scoring. Offensively, the Jags have one of the most dangerous running games in 1a, witht he Express trio in the back. Against Estill, receiver Mikell had a huge game making exceptional catches whil ebeing double and triple covered.

Look for this match to be close throughout the night. Hardeeville's ability to mix the spread and I should help keep the Ridgeland defense honest throughout the night. As for Ridgeland, the much improved pass D will have to once again contain Hardeeville's spread offense, and also contain J-Bone and Kinlaw in the backfield.

My pick: Ridgeland by 6
