COUNTY COUNCIL VS. THE PEOPLE

    This week I am urging the good people of Jasper County to write the Sun Times. I am asking them to express themselves in any way they want. If they believe that things are going in the wrong direction-I want them to say so. For so long,I have been fighting for the people of Jasper County. I need the help of others to say that things must change.

    Council is spending money this year that will be charged in the next budget. They want to buy land-not needed-at Levy for a fire station. The good people of Levy say they don't want and do not need it. Those people have rights and they should not be ignored. Council hired a lobbyist for nothing. The Chairman took a trip to Washington-for nothing. The Council goes on a retreat to Santee to think about saving money. For what-nothing but spend money.

    This next budget will see more employees hired. At this time,Jasper has more employees than any other county in South Carolina for its size-except one. They want more overtime,more cars,more uniforms,more travel and training,more computer stuff and on and on. What you do not see and will not see is more money for the people of the County. They will claim they cannot do that-there is not enough money.

    The simple fact is that the County Council and Administration is interested in one thing-THEMSELVES. It is the 300 employees including Council that get it all and the 30,000 citizens get nothing. Money should be spent on the elderly and children of the County. If people do not stand together,they will ignore you and keep on doing what in the world they want to do. All I need is a few people without enough backbone and guts to be behind me and I will do the work. What could have been a great County Council will probably go down in history as one of the worst ever elected. Something has to change-and you can make that happen. Please just write a short note to the Sun and say-things must change. That way I will know you are listening and you care. I promise. When you do that,people will pat you on the back and say-good job. May God Bless.

County Council versus Jasper County

I do agree with Don, how can County Council be spending money that they don't have right now and charging it to next years budget? How do you justify that, County Council? When the voters go to the polls, why do they keep sending the same unqualified people to these positions? This county seems to have a mind set when it comes  to electing certain people to positions. Unfortunate they are not elected on qualifications but on color or party, which is sad in this day and time. We the people of Jasper County need to keep the County Council along with the Sheriff's Office accountable for there actions.
