Black & Blue
Those that think they know the truth, do some research first before you Blog. R.P.D. does not make up the Law as they do their job. I have been an employee for the state for 5 years and this info is 1st hand.
-Training Camp: Is actually the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. This facility is attended by All Law Enforcement Officers within S.C., and Yes, even R.P.D. Officers.
-Fines: These fines are set by the State Of South Carolina and not the Municipalities, Counties or Highway Patrol.
-Weapons: Cars are defined as weapons under S.C. Law, especially when they are being driven towards an Officer while accelerating with the intention of hitting the Officer.
-Racial Issue: It does not matter what race you are. Police Officers do not paint the criminals black, the criminals are the color they are when they commit the crime. Police can't help that Jasper County is 60% Black, so based on this percentage, most of their contacts are Black. Sorry!
-Tickets: If you don't break the Law, then you will not get one.
-Life in Jasper: If you don't like the way things are being done, MOVE!! Crime seems to be down in Ridgeland from what I read in the paper. I do not live in Jasper County or in Ridgeland but do purchase a Jasper Sun every week. I am a sucessful and educated black man and I do not have to hide behind my color and I know how to use proper grammer when blogging as well. And in my County, color does not matter when you break the LAW.

Well said. I think given
Well said. I think given the circumstances, they do a fair job. But, it could be said that Ridgeland doesn't exactly attract the cream of the crop when it comes to law enforcement. It's not really a local problem; SC police officers are some of the lowest paid in the country. The last time I checked, Charleston officers had the highest starting salaries, somewhere around $35,000, which wouldn't be nearly enough to get me to do the job.
There also needs to be some serious reform with the Academy. As it stands the course is only 9 weeks compared to, say, California at 21 weeks.
Yeah Yeah Yeah
Well I am glad I don't live in Jasper County anymore. I live where officers don't use the power of their badges to make people evacuate out of the town limits. These cops want raises so bad this is what they do to get brownie points, and still no raise.

Very impressive. Thank you for the comments and the FACTS! I'm not an officer, but I am a citizen that works in multiple counties. RPD is no different that the other 4 counties that I work in on a routine daily basis. If you're breaking the law, expect to get pulled; if you're not breaking the law, you won't - those are the simple facts. In Ridgeland, the parking lot that I work in is like a race track, it's unsafe to even walk across at times, the RPD is not here harrassing people because they have no jurisdiction here to do so. If you drive, you've read the Driver's Handbook, therefore, you should know what the laws are. Speeding, No Seatbelt, Faulty Vehicle Equipment are just 3 examples - if you are doing these, you should be pulled and that includes everyone - all races - all ethic groups - EVERYONE!
